Behavioural Modification

Behavioral modification for dogs refers to a set of techniques and strategies used to change or improve a dog's behaviour. This approach is often employed to address issues such as aggression, anxiety, reactivity, excessive barking, chewing, or other unwanted behaviours.

The methods we use can include all four quadrants of dog training, which is a framework used to understand how different methods can influence  a dogs behaviour. They are categorised based on whether they add or remove a stimulus and whether that stimulus is an addition (positive) or removed (negative).

These quadrants help trainers and owners understand how to effectively modify a dog's behaviour by implementing an appropriate technique to alter the behaviour.

Our purpose built setting and community are able to provide an environment where we can also practice in real life situations to desensitise and counter-condition, which can help dogs adjust to triggers that cause undesirable behaviours if appropriate. The goal of behavioural modification is to create a more balanced and well-adjusted pet, enhancing the bond between the dog and its owner and support them living in what can be a challenging world around us.
